LOGO CREATOR
The story of logo creator
For Jimdo’s Logo Creator, I helped design a tool that allows small businesses to easily create their own unique logos without the need for design experience.
Users enter their business name, select a category, and then customize the icon, layout, font, and color.
This streamlined process lets users generate a professional logo that they can download and use across their website and marketing materials, all within a few simple steps.
Problem statement
Small business owners need an accessible, easy-to-use tool for creating a professional logo without design experience, as most design tools are too complex and costly for them to navigate efficiently.

Tools
Final prototype
In developing the logo creator for Jimdo, I followed the five steps of the design thinking process. This approach allowed me to create a user-friendly tool that simplifies the logo design experience for small business owners.
How I created it
"I want a logo that captures my brand's essence without a complicated process. It should be straightforward, visually appealing, and give me confidence that I'm making the right choice for my business."
Emphatize
To understand the goals, needs, and challenges of potential customers interested in creating logos, I conducted interviews focused on their online shopping preferences and expectations for a logo creator tool.
User interviews
Five people took part of the user interviews. While creating the script and doing the user interviews I’ve kept the following goals in mind:
Gather insights into desired features, customization options, and design flexibility in a logo creator.
Explore challenges users face, such as usability issues, unclear instructions, or lack of inspiration.
Determine expectations for navigation ease, template availability, and clarity of the creation steps.
Understand motivations for creating logos, such as personal branding or starting a business.
Assess pricing sensitivity and its impact on willingness to use the tool.
Collect feedback on the visual style and layout to ensure alignment with user preferences..
Insights
Users desire customizable templates, a variety of icons, and font/color options.
Personalization significantly impacts satisfaction with logo design.
Frustrations with existing tools often involve usability and navigation issues.
Preferred navigation includes step-by-step processes or filters.
Users are motivated to create logos for branding, personal expression, or cost savings.
Insights on pricing reveal reasonable expectations for the tool.
Users have specific visual style preferences, such as modern or playful.
Feedback on existing platforms highlights areas for improvement.
Interest in tutorials and design tips enhances the creation experience.
Users want a clear preview of the logo in real-world applications.
Some quotes from the user interviews:
Define
Based on user research and analysis, I've developed user personas, a user journey map, and a task analysis for the new online store.
Personas
After conducting user interviews for the logo creator project, I developed two user personas, Alex and Mia. These personas provided valuable insights into users' needs, goals, behaviors, motivations, and frustrations specifically related to creating their business logos. I used these personas as a reference while designing the logo creator tool for Jimdo, ensuring it meets user expectations and enhances their experience.
Insights
Users desire an intuitive logo creation process that simplifies navigation.
Preference for browsing logos by design styles and color schemes to align with their brand.
Detailed descriptions of logo elements help build trust and connection.
Clear information on customization options and usage rights is essential.
Transparency regarding return policies and user reviews boosts purchasing confidence.
User journey maps
Next, I’ve created user journey maps to illustrate the goals, habits, and behaviors exhibited by users while navigating the logo creator tool. The journey highlights specific actions taken as the user explores the tool, focusing on their experience from landing on the page to deciding to download their logo or leaving the site:
Search and finds information
Informs and create awareness
Decides and buys
Insights
Users need straightforward instructions and fee transparency during the logo creation process.
Realistic logo previews are essential for visualizing logos in real-life contexts.
Easy navigation enhances the user experience with intuitive design options.
Multiple payment methods are necessary to speed up transactions.
Ongoing support, like tutorials and FAQs, empowers users during the design process.
Ideate
With the insights gained from the personas, user journeys, and overall user flows, it was time to brainstorm innovative ideas for the logo creator.
"I want a logo that reflects my brand's personality, but I need to visualize how it looks in real-life applications. Clear previews and guidance during the design process are crucial for me to make a confident decision."
Wireframes
The insights from the user personas, user journeys, and user flows informed the creation of my initial wireframes for the logo creator. After evaluating the low- and mid-fidelity wireframes, I progressed to high-fidelity designs that integrate key features for an optimal user experience.
The 5 steps of creating a logo
The wireframes illustrate the five key steps in the logo creation process: entering the business name, customizing the logo with icons, layouts, fonts, and colors, previewing the design, and downloading the final logo.
Step 1: Business name and choose an icon
Step 2: Choose lay-out
Step 3: Choose a font
Step 4: Choose a color
Step 5: Download your logo
Prototype and test
I created high-fidelity wireframes for the logo creator tool, emphasizing key features for a streamlined user experience. User testing offered valuable insights into functionality, allowing me to refine the design for better clarity and engagement.
Prototype
In the prototype phase of the logo creator tool, I designed high-fidelity wireframes to highlight essential features that enhance user engagement and simplify the logo creation process. These wireframes focus on guiding users through each step, from entering business details to customizing logo elements like icons, layouts, fonts, and colors.
Each design choice ensures a smooth journey, offering recommendations and clear previews at every step to help users feel confident in their final logo selection.
Testing
After finalizing the prototype for the logo creator tool, I conducted extensive user testing to gather detailed insights on functionality, usability, and overall experience.
Participants engaged with the prototype by performing core tasks such as inputting their business names, selecting categories, and customizing their logo designs with icons, colors, fonts, and layouts.
Each stage of the user journey was closely observed, allowing participants to provide real-time feedback on each interaction.
This testing phase also highlighted user perceptions on the clarity of navigation, ease of customization, and the convenience of the download process, offering valuable direction for future refinements.
Insights
Users found the initial interface too cluttered and suggested a cleaner, minimalist design for a more inviting experience
They appreciated a feedback mechanism but wanted a few highlighted user testimonials to facilitate quicker decisions
Clearer explanations of the logo creation process would help users feel more connected to the outcome
Users suggested separating the business name and category input into two distinct pages for a more organized and user-friendly experience
Users requested recommendations for design elements at each step, helping them explore related options easily
Custom color options were highly desired for personalizing logos to better match brand identity
High-quality previews of logos in different contexts would help users visualize their branding
Call-to-action buttons were prominent, guiding users effectively through the logo creation and download process, with download options requested at each step for more flexibility
Detailed information on design aspects (like font choices and color schemes) increased confidence in their final decisions
Final results
After putting my designs to the test I’ve made improvements and created the final wireframes, the final prototype and style guide.
